Voter registration kicks off countrywide

Written by on June 3, 2024

Preparations for this year’s presidential and National Assembly elections are in full swing, with the Electoral Commission of Namibia rolling out a voters’ registration drive starting on Monday and running until 1 August.

Namibians of voting age are encouraged to register to participate in November’s elections.

Independent Patriots for Change presidential candidate Panduleni Itula on Monday visited Philadelphia Church at Katutura to register as a voter.

President Nangolo Mbumba is expected to register at Olympia on Monday.

November’s elections will be the first featuring a woman presidential candidate, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, for the ruling Swapo party since independence.

Nandi-Ndaitwah will be up against Popular Democratic Movement leader McHenry Venaani, Landless People’s Movement leader Bernadus Swartbooi, and Itula.

The election will also see woman independent presidential candidates such as former executive director of finance and public enterprises Ally Angula and social justice activist Rosa Namises of Basic Income Grant Coalition fame throwing their names in the hat. More to follow.
