Reporters Without Borders International secretary general dies

Written by on June 11, 2024

Reporters Without Borders International has announced the death of its secretary general Christophe Deloire (53).

Deloire died in Paris on Saturday after battling cancer.

A statement released by president of Reporters Without Borders Pierre Haski on Monday noted that Deloire contributed to defending the freedom, independence and diversity of journalism across all the continents in an era of informational turmoil.

Haski said Deloire, who was also the director general of Reporters without Borders since 2012, contributed to the transformation of the association and helped spark its renewed growth and influence in becoming a champion for the development of journalism.

“He diligently strived unwaveringly to the cause of journalism and the right to information,” Haski said.

“Since his death has been announced, we have received numerous messages from journalists previously detained or held hostage paying tribute to him, proof of the efficiency of his action at Reporters Without Borders.”

Deloire leaves behind his wife Perrine, son Nathan and his parents.

Reporters Without Borders promised to continue the fight for the growth of journalism as Deloire would have wanted.
