Technology expert warns Namibia Is becoming too dependent on AI
August 31, 2026
A technology expert has warned that Namibians may be becoming too comfortable and dependent on artificial intelligence, despite the technology only becoming widely accessible in recent years.
Speaking to Desert FM on the growing use of AI recently, Nrupesh Soni said many people are increasingly relying on AI to replace their own thinking rather than using it as a tool to improve productivity. He also raised concerns about data protection, saying employees could unknowingly expose confidential information when using AI platforms, while certain routine jobs could eventually be replaced by automation.
Soni said Namibia should focus on understanding and using AI responsibly, particularly as the country continues to face challenges around digital infrastructure, skills development and data protection.
