The Electricity Control Board has approved a 3.8% electricity tariff increase for NamPower for the 2025/26 financial year—far below the 17.44% that the utility applied for. While NamPower argued its application was necessary to sustain generation and transmission operations, activists pushed back.

Shaun E. Gariseb, a long-time social justice campaigner, was among the voices who submitted written objections and recommendations during the public consultation process. He’s calling this a partial victory—but insists that long-term solutions and greater regulatory enforcement are still missing.
