Remembering Hage Geingob: A Nation Reflects One Year On

February 4, 2025

[PODCAST]

Parliament’s first sitting has been postponed by a day to 5 February to allow for the first anniversary of the passing of former President Hage Geingob. Geingob, who was diagnosed with cancer, passed away on 4 February 2024. To honour his memory, the public is invited to Heroes’ Acre from 12h00 to 16h00, where the gates will remain open for tributes. The official commemorative program will begin at 10h00 at Heroes’ Acre, where President Nangolo Mbumba and Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will lay wreaths at the late president’s mausoleum. A second part of the program will be held at the State House, where President Mbumba will deliver a commemorative message to the nation. A year later, have Namibians managed to come to terms with the passing of their third president? To unpack this we were joined by speaker of parliament, and struggle stalwart Professor Peter Katjavivi.
