A University of Namibia sociologist says unequal power relations and economic hardships make many young Namibians vulnerable to exploitation. Senior sociology lecturer Ellison Tjirera says abuse is not primarily about sexual orientation, but about people in positions of authority taking advantage of those facing unemployment and poverty. He says economic realities often leave victims aware of exploitation but unable to resist it.
