August 6, 2026
The return of the Namibia Annual Music Awards (Namas) after a six-year absence has been welcomed as a major step forward for the country’s creative industry.
Award-winning entertainment journalist! June Shimuoshili says the awards are more than just a celebration of music, describing them as the heart of Namibia’s creative spirit. She also welcomed the government’s N$10 million commitment towards reviving the awards, saying sustainable funding is essential for their long-term success and for ensuring the entire creative value chain benefits.
Shimuoshili believes the return of the Namas could introduce new award categories, reflect the growth of Namibia’s music industry, and spark important conversations around emerging issues such as the use of artificial intelligence in music production.
