Miss Unam finalist Bridget Mnakapa urges collective action to end gender-based violence

Gender-based violence (GBV) remains a major concern in Namibia, with young people continuing to call for stronger action to protect women and girls. Miss Unam finalist and GBV advocate Bridget Mnakapa says everyone has a role to play in challenging harmful attitudes that fuel violence.

Mnakapa says her advocacy was inspired by a spike in GBV cases in 2025, particularly along the Windhoek–Okahandja route, where students expressed fears about travelling home. She says this led to awareness campaigns, including marches and public demonstrations involving University of Namibia students and student leaders.
