Kae Matundu unpacks NNN decision to take action against underperforming public office-bearers

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has vowed to take decisive action against underperforming public office-bearers.

Speaking during a recent visit to a centre for flood victims at Etunda in the Omusati region, she said she intends to use the mandate given to her by the electorate to hold officials accountable — making it clear that she would not hesitate to dismiss those who fail to deliver.

She also acknowledged that if she doesn’t do her job, Namibians have the power to remove her through the ballot box.

But coming from a lineage of presidential administrations where dismissals have been rare — even for officials accused of corruption or poor performance — can Namibians take President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s promise seriously?

And if so, how might the threat of dismissal translate into real accountability and efficiency within her administration?
