Fuel prices increase by N$2 per litre as government reinstates levies

Namibian motorists will pay N$2 more per litre for both petrol and diesel from 5 August, after the government reinstated fuel levies that were temporarily reduced over the past four months.

Speaking on Desert FM, Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy chief economist and petroleum pricing specialist Abednego Ekandjo said the reinstatement of the levies was necessary to allow key institutions, including the Road Fund Administration and the National Road Safety Council, to continue funding their operations.

Ekandjo added that government interventions, including from the National Energy Fund and emergency fuel supply arrangements, helped prevent an even larger fuel price increase of up to N$6 per litre.
