Fishing workers still in limbo as quota allocation delays drag on

July 16, 2026

[PODCAST]

Workers linked to Etosha Fishing Corporation remain in limbo as delays in fishing quota allocations continue.

Employees say government had committed to finalising the process within three days after a petition was handed over in June. However, weeks later, no final decision has been communicated, leaving hundreds of workers without jobs or certainty.

Deputy Secretary General of the Mining, Metal and Maritime Workers Union of Namibia,  Leonard Armas, says the union has not received clear answers from authorities.
