April 16, 2025
At the Open Society Africa tour in Windhoek on Tuesday, Vice President Lucia Witbooi emphasized the challenging road ahead for Namibia and Africa in claiming reparations for colonial atrocities, particularly Germany’s 1904 massacre of over 100,000 Nama and Ovaherero people.
Witbooi stressed the need for dialogue, women’s leadership, and a holistic approach to restorative justice, including environmental restoration at sites like Shark Island.
Joining us was Ovaherero Traditional Authority Chief Hoze Riruako, who has long advocated for a national approach to the genocide issue, to share his thoughts on Witbooi’s remarks.
