Nandi-Ndaitwah promises to increase pension grant to N$3 000

Swapo presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has promised to increase the pension grant to N$3 000 once elected.
This was a promise also made by late president Hage Geingob during his New Year’s message this year. Geingob said: “Before I leave office, I hope that the old-age pension grant would be increased to N$2 000, or maybe N$3 000.”
Nandi-Ndaitwah was speaking at the Dr Hage G Geingob memorial lecture, themed ‘His Legacy Lives On’ at Ongwediva over the weekend.
“If elected president of the Republic of Namibia, I commit to fulfil the wish of president Geingob to increase the old age pension to N$3 000,” she said.
Taxpayers would have to fork out about N$723 million per month if the Treasury is to fulfil Geingob’s wish to increase the country’s pension and disability grants from N$1 400 to N$3 000
