Amutse champions investment in innovation

Written by on June 7, 2024

The deputy minister of information and communication technology, Modestus Amutse, has urged African governments to invest in the production of knowledge and to adopt appropriate policies and strategies to support research and development.

Amutse was speaking at the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) Summit in Kenya this week.

“The main purpose of institutions of higher education is the production of knowledge. Knowledge is produced by conducting research. Successful nations with strong economies have realised their success by investing in higher education,” he said.

Amutse said universities are important role-players in societies’ innovation potential.

“This holds particularly for basic research. Universities and public research institutes are responsible for producing science-based knowledge upon which the development of new products, processes and services can build,” he said.
