Search for drowned Swakopmund teen enters day 20 as rescuers renew water safety appeal
July 22, 2026
The search for Erwin Bezuidenhout (15), who drowned near Platz am Meer at Swakopmund earlier this month, has entered its 20th day. Sean Naude of the Namibian Marshal Rangers says the operation has been complicated by a man-made rock barrier, making it difficult for search teams to access the area where the teenager is believed to be. As Namibia prepares to mark World Drowning Prevention Day on Saturday, Naude is urging the public to remain vigilant around water and to never underestimate the dangers of the ocean.
