Mama Africa on rising voter apathy

As the country gathers at voting stations today, a growing wave of voter apathy and fatigue is emerging and it’s especially pronounced among marginalised communities. Many citizens say they feel overwhelmed by frequent elections, disconnected from political leaders, and alienated from processes that seldom reflect their lived realities. For communities already facing social and economic exclusion, this sense of political distance is even deeper, pushing more people away from the polls and raising urgent questions about representation and democratic participation.
