Lifalaza Simataa on Sam Nujoma backtracking on housing delivery promise

November 14, 2025

[PODCAST]

Next, we turn our focus to the ongoing housing crisis in the Khomas region and the latest political storm surrounding Governor Sam Nujoma.

Earlier this year, Nujoma publicly spoke about plans to deliver 5 000 housing units within 12 months. Now, he says that promise was never his, but rather part of the Swapo election manifesto distancing himself from the commitment as criticism mounts over unoccupied mass housing units, slow land servicing, and deepening informal settlement challenges. With almost half of Khomas residents living in shacks, political parties have voiced concerns over government’s delivery record, the back-and-forth between authorities, and what they call a lack of urgency in addressing a crisis affecting thousands.

To help us unpack this political accountability debate, the state of housing delivery, and the implications of the governor’s latest comments, we’re joined by Lifalaza Simataa, spokesperson of the Landless People’s Movement.
