Swanu of Namibia’s Evalistus Kaaronda on De Beers deal
November 11, 2025
The British multinational Anglo American has put its 85% stake in De Beers up for sale, valued at around N$84 billion.
Botswana and Angola recently met to discuss both countries’ interest in that stake. Botswana already owns 15% of De Beers and have expressed interest for more.
Reports suggest that for Namibia, a 10-15% share could cost between N$9.8 and N$14.8 billion. This massive investment would make the country a co-owner of diamond reserves in Botswana, Angola, Canada and beyond.
But can Namibia afford this? To talk about this, Desert FM is joined by Swanu of Namibia president Evalistus Kaaronda.
