Harold Akwenye: COW welcomes proposals to celebrate cultural legends

City of Windhoek spokesperson Harold Akwenye says proposals to celebrate cultural icons through street names, statues, and other initiatives are welcome, stressing that music is as vital to Namibia’s heritage as politics and history. He noted that figures like Ras Sheehama and Jackson Kaujeua Jr. have left a lasting mark on the nation’s identity, and the city remains open to collaboration with families, artists, and communities.

Akwenye added that inclusivity, diversity, and public engagement will remain central to how Windhoek chooses to honour its legends. Jane Kandetu spoke to Harold Akwenye on Desert FM.
