Robert Shipanga Slams Silence on Artists’ Deaths, Calls for Recognition and State Support
September 19, 2025
We turn our attention to the ongoing debate about how Namibia recognizes and celebrates its artists. Recently former Universal Sounds executive, Founder of Blend production – Robert Shipanga, shared a heartfelt reflection on social media. He questioned why the Directorate of Arts has remained silent on the passing of countless artists who represent the very soul of our culture. Shipanga believes that artists deserve recognition not only while they are alive, but also the dignity of official acknowledgment and even state-supported funerals when they pass away. He describes the silence as deeply painful and calls on those tasked with safeguarding our creative leacy to act with genuine passion and responsibility.
