Nico Smit unpacks PDM’s financial and compliance position amidst allegations of missing funds
July 10, 2025
Several employees of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) have come forward with concerns over alleged non-compliance with tax regulations. At the heart of the matter: deductions for PAYE and social security that, according to some staffers, have not been properly paid over to the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA). Despite payslips indicating compliance, multiple employees claim they were unable to access their tax refunds — and that no PAYE certificates were issued for the last financial year.
PDM leadership insists that the funds have indeed been transferred and that delays stem from administrative backlogs and missing taxpayer registrations. As the party also navigates impending retrenchments, the timing could not be more critical.
To speak to these concerns and to clarify the party’s financial and compliance position we were joined by Nico Smit, Treasurer General of the Popular Democratic Movement.
