Penda Ithindi discusses the decentralisation and access expansion of healthcare
July 1, 2025
As Namibia’s urban population grows and pressure mounts on existing public health facilities, the Ministry of Health and Social Services is taking bold steps to decentralize and expand access to healthcare.
From 1 July 2025, the Khomas Region will see the phased rollout of extended clinic hours at key public facilities—starting with Otjomuise and Okuryangava Health Centre. Okuryangava is also set to become the country’s second 24-hour primary health facility by August.
To unpack these reforms, their impact, and how the ministry intends to scale these solutions, we were joined by the Executive Director of Health and Social Services, Mr. Penda Ithindi.
