Marius Kudumo unpacks the retirement benefits of public office bearers
June 11, 2025
The generous retirement benefits for Namibia’s public office-bearers are back in the spotlight, sparking a national debate: are they truly justifiable, especially when officials return to top positions?
This discussion intensified after National Assembly Speaker Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila forfeited over N$728,000 in retirement benefits when she reassumed a public office after stepping down as Prime Minister. But critics question if these benefits are excessive, fair, and sustainable for a developing economy. To unpack the political and fiscal implications, we were joined by political analyst Marius Kudumo.
