Lamech Mwapagha discusses cancer genomics workshop set for September

June 6, 2025

[PODCAST]

We turn our attention to cancer genomics, a field that’s fast becoming central to how we diagnose and treat cancer—especially for African populations, whose genetic diversity has historically been underrepresented in global research.

As we speak, preparations are underway for a major international workshop happening this September in Windhoek, titled “Harnessing Functional Genomics in Cancer Research: Opportunities for Diagnosis and Treatment.” It’s organised by the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in collaboration with the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).

To break down the importance of this event and the broader push for homegrown cancer genomics research, we were joined by the organiser himself Lamech Mwapagha—a medical biochemist and genomics expert from NUST.
