Johannes Shangadi unpacks the implications of the Whale Rock Cement- Schwenk Namibia merger
June 5, 2025
Whale Rock Cement, the controlling entity behind Cheetah Cement, has filed to acquire Schwenk Namibia, which holds a majority stake in Ohorongo Cement—Namibia’s other key cement producer. If approved, this would effectively place the entire cement production sector under Whale Rock’s control.
The Namibian Competition Commission is currently reviewing the proposed transaction and has opened the floor for public input. This deal isn’t just about big business; it’s also about jobs, local ownership, fair pricing, and economic growth.
Joining us is Johannes Shangadi, a legal practitioner at the Namibian Competition Commission, to unpack what this means for job creation, market fairness, and Namibia’s broader economic goals.
