The University of Namibia’s recent call for applications for the 2026 academic year has sparked public outcry following the announcement that prospective students will be required to pay a N$150 application fee.
Critics have questioned the rationale behind this fee, especially in light of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s recent pledge that education will be fully subsidised from next year. The concern has further intensified with the revelation that international applicants will be charged N$300.
To clarify this issue and provide the university’s position, we were joined by UNAM spokesperson, Simon Namesho.
