Zoleka Touros speaks out on loss and neglect at Uis clinic
August 21, 2025
A heartbreaking story has emerged from the Erongo region, 24-year-old Zoleka Touros nearly lost her life while giving birth at Uis Clinic earlier this month. She was carrying twins, but due to complications and a disputed decision by the nurse on duty, one baby was stillborn while the other remains in an incubator, fighting for his life.
Zoleka and her partner are now demanding accountability, alleging negligence and systemic failures in maternal care at rural clinics. The case raises serious questions about access to quality healthcare, the role of frontline medical staff, and the struggles faced by young, unemployed parents in such crises.
We now bring you more on her story and what it tells us about maternal healthcare challenges in Namibia. Our journalist Ellan Albertz spoke to Zoleka for an in depth understanding to what happened.
