Walter Kamaya addresses malaria patient left unattended
May 30, 2025
On Tuesday, 28-year-old Felix Santos, a malaria patient, was found lying on the floor outside Ekwafo Pharmacy in Rundu—reportedly unattended for over four hours. Santos, an Angolan national working at the Uvhungu-Vhungu green scheme, said he didn’t know where to seek help, and despite showing clear signs of illness, received no assistance during that time.
He was later diagnosed with malaria at the Rundu Intermediate Hospital and is now in stable condition. But the incident has raised urgent questions about patient care, communication gaps, and how well our health system responds—especially when patients are unfamiliar with local procedures.
To discuss the ministry’s response and what’s being done to prevent similar incidents we were joined by spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Social Services Walter Kamaya.
