Tobie Aupindi discusses the Windhoek CIty’s proposed 4% electricity hike
June 9, 2025
The City of Windhoek plans a 4% electricity tariff increase for the 2025/2026 financial year, slightly above NamPower’s approved 3.8% hike.
City officials presented the proposal during a public consultation last Friday. They say the increase is vital to cover NamPower’s adjustments and meet rising demand, as Windhoek’s population has grown over 67% since 2011.
However, not everyone agrees. Swapo lawmaker Tobie Aupindi has voiced concerns in parliament about recurring electricity hikes impacting ordinary Namibians. He join us to discuss the City’s proposal and its potential effects on residents already struggling with high costs.
