Sima Luipert on the upcoming Genocide Rememberance Day
April 30, 2025
As Namibia prepares to mark its first-ever Genocide Remembrance Day on 28 May, tensions are rising within affected communities, with renewed calls for justice and accountability.
The Nama Traditional Leaders Association (NTLA) has called for fresh genocide negotiations, declaring that the 2021 joint declaration between the Namibian and German governments has “failed morally and politically.” Their sentiments echo growing frustration over what many perceive as a lack of meaningful redress and recognition.
