Rosa Namises says new divorce law delays struggles and the promise of reform

August 25, 2025

[PODCAST]

A mother of three from Otjiwarongo finds herself financially drained and emotionally worn out, as her divorce hearing has been postponed for the fourth time. With mounting debts, no stable home, and uncertainty about her future, her case shines a spotlight on the urgent need for reform in how divorce cases are handled in our country.

This comes as justice and labour relations minister, Wise Immanuel, has announced the commencement of the Dissolution of Marriages Act, 2024 — a law that promises to make divorce easier and more affordable for those who cannot access legal representation.

To unpack what this means, and to explore the human impact of these legal delays, I’m joined by women’s rights activist Rosa Namises.
