Ride hailing drivers targeted in Windhoek

Windhoek ride-hailing and taxi drivers are increasingly reporting attacks by criminals particularly during late night trips.Police say one driver was recently ambushed by multiple vehicles surrounded and assaulted by six suspects. The attackers smashed his car windows and stole his battery, mirrors, phone and cash before fleeing the scene.

Authorities confirm that similar incidents have been reported by other Yango and taxi drivers raising concerns about driver safety in the city.

Desert FM spoke to Yango driver Petrus Hauwanga who described the risks faced by drivers on Windhoek’s roads.
