Muzani Muzani discusses the decision by Unam to charge application fees for prospective students

The University of Namibia defended its decision to charge application fees for prospective students applying for the 2026 academic year, despite mounting public criticism.

Many have questioned the move, arguing that with the new administration’s commitment to 100% subsidised tertiary education, the application process itself should also be free. Critics on social media contend that application fees should not be seen as part of tuition, which is what the government has pledged to cover.
