Mulijani Simasiku unpacks sewerage pump malfuntion and its impact on local businesses

In Katima Mulilo, vendors and small traders say they are quite literally working in sewage. A major sewerage pump malfunction at Station 7 has left parts of the town soaked in raw sewage, putting livelihoods, health, and businesses in jeopardy.
The town council has warned of potential evacuations and even the closure of businesses if the problem isn’t urgently addressed – and now vendors, especially those who sell food and produce, are speaking out.
Mulijani Simasiku, chairperson of the Native Small Traders Association in Katima Mulilo joined us this morning. He represents dozens of vendors whose livelihoods are directly threatened by the health crisis unfolding across the town
