On 4 July, the Erongo Regional Council will host the first-ever Uis Investment Conference under the theme ‘Uis in Transition – Mining, Tourism and Beyond.’ The conference is being billed as a turning point for the Dâures constituency, promising investment in green hydrogen, tourism, infrastructure and more. But it comes amid deep controversy — with community concerns about illegal mining, environmental destruction, poor labour conditions, and lack of local benefit.
