Martin Matsuib discusses the Dâure Daman Traditional Authority incident

This incident, which has left parts of the chief’s house damaged and several community members arrested, stems from long-standing disputes between the Dâure Daman Traditional Authority and sections of the Uis community. The protestors, who have styled themselves as a ‘concerned group,’ have raised allegations of corruption, land sales, and the mismanagement of community resources — particularly in relation to deals involving Chinese mining companies.
The traditional authority, however, strongly denies these accusations, describing them as misinformation aimed at undermining its leadership. With mounting frustration, police interventions, court orders, and now violent actions, the situation has taken a dangerous turn.
To give us clarity on the Traditional Authority’s position and what the way forward might be, we were joined by Martin Matsuib, spokesperson for the Dâure Daman Traditional Authority.
