Manuel Ngaringombe discusses PDMs move to restructure salaries

June 3, 2025

[PODCAST]

We turn our attention to internal developments within Namibia’s official opposition party, the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM). After suffering a significant loss in the 2024 presidential and National Assembly elections, the party is now facing serious financial challenges.

According to a leaked internal memo, the PDM plans to restructure salaries — with rural regional coordinators expected to receive N$5 000, and their urban counterparts N$7 000. Even more concerning is the potential retrenchment of 16 employees, as salary commitments reportedly make up 60% of the party’s income.

To help us understand the current situation, where things stand, and what it means for the future of the party’s workforce and regional presence, we were joined by PDM secretary general Manuel Ngaringombe.
