Joseph Kauandenge unpacks his critism of Genocide Remembrance Day program
May 27, 2025
Association for Localised Interests leader and parliamentarian, Joseph Kauandenge, has criticised the Genocide Remembrance Day programme, saying it lacks inclusivity—particularly of traditional leaders who are well-versed in the history and impact of the genocide.
This comes as Namibia prepares to commemorate its first-ever Genocide Remembrance Day, reflecting on the atrocities committed against the Nama and Herero people at the start of the 20th century under German colonial rule.
Kauandenge joins us to share his views on the significance of this national event, his concerns about its current format, and whether it holds the potential to foster unity within the Herero nation, which remains divided between two main factions.
