Jane Kuhanga on the 2025 African Widows Summit

Coming up in this hour, we turn our focus to an important gathering taking place right here in the capital. Windhoek is hosting the second edition of the African Widows’ Summit, running from the 3rd to the 5th of September under the theme ‘Widowhood in Africa: Building a Sustainable Culture. The Summit has already seen the launch of the Pan-African Widows Growth and Development Initiative, or PAWAGADI, which aims to strengthen advocacy for the rights, welfare, and recognition of widows across the continent, while also shaping policy on how widows can contribute to development.
