Ismael Shingenge unpacks the approved a 3.8% electricity tariff

May 14, 2025

[PODCAST]

The Electricity Control Board (ECB) has approved a 3.8% electricity tariff increase for the Namibia Power Corporation (NamPower), effective for the 2025/26 financial year.

This means the cost of electricity will rise from N$1.98 per kWh to N$2.06 per kWh—a far lower adjustment than the 17.44% increase NamPower had requested for its generation and transmission tariffs.

To help us unpack this development and what it means for consumers, businesses, and the broader economy, we were joined by Ismael Shingenge, Manager for Economic and Market Regulation at the ECB.
