Herbert Jauch unpacks legall implications of not complying to the minimum wage rate by employers

May 21, 2025

[PODCAST]

We continue our conversation in the //Kharas region, where security guards employed by Nally Investments at Karasburg government schools are raising serious concerns. They allege being pressured into signing contracts that do not comply with the Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations’ approved minimum wage rates.

The guards claim they’re being offered a fixed salary of N$2,300 per month, which falls short of the N$13.50 per hour minimum wage which was effective from January 1, 2025.

They further report threats of dismissal if they refuse to sign these contracts. The company’s owner, Nally Henog, contends that delayed payments from the Ministry of Education have hindered her ability to meet the new wage requirements.

To help us understand the broader implications of this dispute, we were joined by labour expert Herbert Jauch.
