Heinrich Hafeni discusses Namibia’s first export consignment under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)
June 30, 2025
Namibia is set to take a historic step in its trade and economic development journey with the launch of its first export consignment under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework on 30 June 2025 at the port of Walvis Bay. This moment signifies Namibia’s formal entry into Africa’s largest free trade area, with a potential market of 1.3 billion people and a collective GDP of over US$3.4 trillion.
The AfCFTA promises to enhance intra-African trade, remove tariff barriers, and boost industrialisation and job creation. But how prepared is Namibia’s business sector to seize these opportunities? What should entrepreneurs, SMEs, and tourism players understand about this shift?
Joining us is businessman and tourism leader Heinrich Hafeni, to unpack what this development means for local industries, Namibia’s regional competitiveness, and how communities and entrepreneurs can tap into this transformative trade platform.
