Guame Stephanus unpacks the deepening housing crisis in Oranjemund

Across Oranjemund, a viral WhatsApp message is rallying residents to bring national media attention to the town’s deepening housing crisis. The message calls for interviews with affected families and urges journalists and broadcasters to spotlight what protesters describe as ‘a national issue, not just a local one’. At the same time, government recently approved new housing schemes for the town, but questions persist especially from groups like the Landless People’s Movement about who benefits, and whether existing efforts are truly affordable and inclusive.
