Gerub Gaseb on the cancellation of the Okahandja Expo

Okahandja mayor Beatrix Kotungondo bowed to mounting pressure from community members and activists to cancel a planned business expo, as the town mourns the tragic deaths of two young children and a teenager.

Initially, the mayor insisted the expo would go ahead, sparking serious backlash from activists who accused the municipality of being insensitive.

Although Kotungondo has since conceded to public pressure, activist Gerub Gaseb said yesterday that there are now rumours the mayor may be reconsidering the cancellation — even as a vigil was held to honour the three victims last night.
