Former Malawian president Peter Mutharika, now 85 years old, has reclaimed power after winning this month’s presidential election with more than 56% of the vote. His rival, incumbent Lazarus Chakwera, conceded defeat after five turbulent years marked by economic decline, food insecurity, and mounting poverty.
