Fishing Quota Allegations Put Executive in the Spotlight
August 28, 2025
The fisheries sector is once again under the spotlight. The Mining, Metal, Maritime and Construction Workers’ Union is calling for the removal of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform’s executive director, Teofilus Nghitila. The union accuses him of irregular involvement in fishing quotas through Omukokoli Fishing, which was linked to illegal catches in 2021.
Nghitila has strongly denied any wrongdoing, insisting that he holds no fishing rights and that his role in an exploratory quota has been misrepresented. He joins Desert FM to respond directly to these allegations and to shed light on his position.
