Dorthea Nangolo discusses the mass hostel evictions at Unam
June 9, 2025
Unam students were abruptly informed to vacate their hostels — to make way for athletes participating in the upcoming African Union Sport Council Region Five Games, set for July in Windhoek and Swakopmund.
The move has sparked public outcry and left many students — some with no relatives in Windhoek — scrambling for emergency accommodation during their final exam period. A petition has been handed over.
The Namibia National Students Organisation (NANSO), which advocates for the rights and welfare of Namibian students, has stepped into the conversation.
We were joined by NANSO President Dorthea Nangolo to unpack the situation, and what can be done to resolve it.
