Beatrix Kotungondo unpacks the importance of the expo and how the municipality is addressing unresolved public concerns
June 3, 2025
The Okahandja Municipality has proceeded with its long-awaited business expo, despite mounting concerns from local activists who called for its cancellation following a recent spate of abductions, rapes, and murders in the town.
Activists have raised alarm over public safety, arguing that hosting a public event under such circumstances is inappropriate and potentially risky. The expo had previously been postponed, but the municipality has now decided to move forward, insisting that adequate safety measures are in place and that the town must continue with its economic and social calendar.
As police continue their hunt for those behind the violent crimes, Mayor Beatrix Kotungondo joined us to discuss the importance of the expo, how the municipality is addressing public safety concerns, and how the community is coping in the wake of these tragic events.
