We shine a spotlight on a quiet crisis unfolding in some of our most overlooked communities. Cervical cancer continues to claim the lives of too many young women often in silence, often in shame.
In the informal settlements around Windhoek, known as the kambashus, one woman has taken it upon herself to raise awareness where health campaigns rarely reach. Leena Amwaala has been going door-to-door, breaking the silence, and talking openly about prevention, early detection, and the dangerous stigma surrounding genital diseases.
She says the problem is worse than most of us realise and that the fear and judgment surrounding this disease are costing lives.
